Common Stitches Sheri and I use a handful of stitches to make our stoles. Here are the primary stitches we use. Each of these stitches can be used in so many different ways to achieve many different effects. Try changing directions or going in circles to make a common stitch come to life. Popcorn StitchThe popcorn stitch is one of my favorite stitches. I love the way it makes smooth turns and can create a variety of patterns. To make the popcorn stitch, take a full six strands of embroidery floss and couch it down with a single strand of floss. I used two colors for illustration, but usually you use the same color. This is what you can do with it. Click the link below the picture for a close up view. Lamb Grapes Split Stitch I like the spit stitch just as much as I like the popcorn stitch, and I use it just as much. The split stitch is a good stitch to cover large areas. Unlike the popcorn stitch, it doesn't turn around corners and circles as well. However, it is wonderful if you want to make a smooth color change. Again, I used two colors to help illustrate how to do the stitch. This is what you can do with it. Click the link below the picture for a close up view.
